AI Visibility
The New Scoreboard Isn't Your Ranking. It's Whether You Get Named
When an AI answers a question about your industry, it either mentions your business or it doesn't. That mention — the citation — is the thing worth tracking now, because it decides whether you exist in the answer at all.
The Idea
Citation is presence; absence is invisibility
In traditional search, visibility is a spectrum — you rank third, or eleventh, or fortieth. In an AI answer it's closer to binary. The answer either draws on your site and names you, or it draws on someone else and doesn't. There's no eleventh place to climb out of. Being cited is the difference between being part of the buyer's answer and being nowhere in it.
And because the answer is synthesised from just a handful of sources, the competition is sharper than a ten-link results page. A question that once had room for a page of businesses now has room for two or three. Whether you're one of them is a fact about your business you can actually check — not a vibe, not a guess.
Why Track It
You can't feel this one — you have to look
The reason citation has to be tracked deliberately is that nothing tells you when it's happening. A ranking drop eventually shows up as fewer visits. But an AI answer that quietly recommends a competitor instead of you leaves no trace in your own analytics — the visit that never happened doesn't log itself. You can lose ground here for months without a single number on your dashboard moving.
So the discipline is the same one this whole library teaches, pointed at a new surface: notice whether your brand actually shows up when a real buyer asks a real question (signal), form a plain guess at why or why not (hypothesis), and decide what's worth testing — instead of assuming that because you rank well in search, you must be showing up in answers too. You might not be. The only way to know is to look.
What ARIA Shows You
Named, or a competitor named instead
The finding, in plain English: "For the kinds of questions a buyer would ask an AI before choosing a business like yours, here's how often you actually come up — and, when you don't, who does instead. This is the answer surface your customers are already using, and this is where you currently stand on it."
That turns a fuzzy anxiety — "are we even in AI answers?" — into a plain, checkable picture: present or absent, and against whom.

Where to go next
If the answer is "not often enough," the fix starts with content that wins AI answers — what makes a page quotable in the first place. If you're new to the whole idea, start with what AEO actually is, and to understand why ranking well doesn't guarantee being cited, read SEO vs AEO.
Being reachable by an answer engine also leans on the technical markup that makes your facts machine-readable — a hands-on job on Audry's side: Structured Data / Schema Markup Basics.
Find out whether you're being cited
You can't see this one in your own analytics — the missing mentions don't log themselves. Connect your site and let ARIA show you whether the answers name you or someone else.
