Privacy-Compliant Behavior Tracking

You can learn where people click and where they give up without knowing who they are — and for most businesses, that's not just safer, it's genuinely all you needed.

The False Trade-Off

Insight and privacy aren't opposites

It's easy to assume that understanding visitor behavior means collecting as much about each visitor as possible — the more you capture, the more you know. Behavior heatmaps show that's the wrong trade. The questions that actually improve a page — where do people click, how far do they scroll, where do they stall — are about the pattern, not the person. You can answer every one of them from anonymized data.

That's the whole reason Audry's heatmap doesn't record video. Filming a visitor's screen captures far more than the question requires, and then makes you responsible for storing it. Aggregated, anonymized behavior answers the same question and asks a lot less of everyone.

Anonymized by Design

A baseline, not an afterthought

The visitor data behind every heatmap is anonymized and obfuscated, built with an eye toward US state privacy rules — California's among them — as a baseline the tool starts from, not a setting bolted on later to pass an audit. "Privacy-first" is easy to say; the meaningful version is choosing, up front, not to collect the sensitive thing in the first place.

For a small business, that posture is also just less risk to carry. Data you never collected can't leak, can't be subpoenaed, and can't become a compliance headache down the road.

When Data Sticks Around

A higher bar for long-term storage

Where the top Audry tier keeps this behavior data for the long term, it's held to what Audry calls HIPAA-level security — a security standard Audry holds itself to, not a claim of formal HIPAA certification. That qualifier is deliberate and always attached: the honest version of a strong security posture is describing exactly what it is and isn't, so the phrase means something instead of just sounding impressive.

What Audry Does Here

Answers without the liability

A business in a regulated field wants to improve its site but is (rightly) nervous about any tool that records what visitors do on screen — the compliance exposure of storing full-session recordings just isn't worth the insight.

Audry's heatmap gives them the behavior picture they wanted — click hotspots, scroll depth, the sections nobody reaches — from anonymized data built to a privacy baseline, with no video to secure. They get to make real, evidence-based improvements to the page without taking on the storage risk that made them hesitate. The insight was never in the parts they were afraid to collect.
