WordPress + Shopify
Choosing WordPress or Shopify for a Small Business
Both are excellent. Both can run almost any small-business site. The right choice isn't about which is "better" — it's about which one fits what you actually sell and how you want to run it.
When Shopify Fits
Selling products is the whole job
Shopify is built, first and foremost, to sell things. If your business is fundamentally a store — physical products, a catalog, a cart, checkout, shipping, inventory — Shopify handles the hard, boring parts of commerce out of the box, and does it reliably. You trade some flexibility for a lot of "it just works." For a business whose website essentially is the storefront, that trade is usually the right one.
When WordPress Fits
Content, services, and flexibility lead
WordPress is the more open, flexible option — it can be almost anything. If your site is content-led (a service business, a lot of pages, a serious blog, appointment-driven work) and selling products isn't the main event, WordPress gives you more room to shape the site around how your business actually works. That flexibility is its strength and its catch: more freedom also means more choices, and more pieces to keep in order over time.
How to Actually Decide
Start from your business, not the software
The honest shortcut: if the core of your business is selling products online, lean Shopify. If the core is content, services, or a site that needs to bend to an unusual shape, lean WordPress. Then weigh how hands-on you want to be — WordPress rewards (and requires) more ongoing care; Shopify trades some control for less to maintain. There's rarely a wrong answer here, only a better-fit one — and the fit comes from your business, not from whichever platform an internet argument defended hardest.
Whichever you pick, the ongoing reality is the same: a site is never "done," and keeping it healthy over time is its own job. That's the part Audry is built to take off your plate for both platforms.
What Audry Does Here
The same care, whichever you chose
Two businesses make opposite, correct calls: a product-first shop goes Shopify, a service-and-content business goes WordPress. Both then hit the identical wall a few months in — updates to manage, tracking to keep alive, technical health nobody has time to babysit. The platform choice was right; the upkeep is what neither of them signed up to do.
Audry offers direct, secure remote management for both platforms — the two that already cover most small-business sites — so the day-to-day upkeep is handled with purpose-built tools rather than left to chance. You pick the platform that fits your business; Audry keeps whichever one you chose running right. See Direct Access vs. a Plugin for how that management works.
